Mission & Athletic Principles

One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.

Mission

At Balboa, our student athletes are encouraged to make commitments, set goals, and see them through. We practice the Principles of Good Sportsmanship, which prevail at all times, regardless of what the scoreboard reads. Our mission is to enrich the mental, physical and emotional well-being of our students through competitive athletics where lifelong lessons of sportsmanship, individual effort, teamwork, integrity, commitment and self-discipline are emphasized.

Our athletic program consists of twenty-eight sport teams at the varsity, junior-varsity and frosh-soph levels and over fifty percent of our student body participates. Our student athletes are supported by an incredible group of coaches who continually foster the rich tradition of Balboa athletics and devote their time and energy to bringing excellence to our athletic program.

Athletic Principles

The Balboa Athletic Program will:

  • Provide opportunities for students to participate in a wide variety of sports throughout the school year.
  • Assist participants in the development of required physical and sport-specific skills.
  • Foster the development of character, social skills, game ethics and sportsmanship.
  • Compliment lessons learned in the classroom and encourage cooperation, teamwork, discipline and hard work.
