Mission: The International Pathway is a college preparatory pathway providing Balboa’s international community a road for success at university and beyond. The International Pathway is a combination of English as Second Language students and college-bound international students.


IP is designed to ensure English Learners develop English proficiency and academic competency. We provide English learners with content classes taught using Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE)  methodologies, which are strategies designed to help English Learners understand the content. The curriculum includes transition support for recently arrived immigrant students. Primary language instruction is utilized when available in academic areas at grade level. The pathway also addresses gaps due to differences in national school systems. In the development and maintenance of language, we strive to avoid linguistic isolation by incorporating opportunities for English Learners to interact with native English speakers. Courses in the pathway are a-g approved.


Families are encouraged to participate in the following parent involvement opportunities at the school: English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), District ELAC, School Site Council (SSC), and School Advisory Council (SAC).
